SPOTLIGHT ON: The COAT by Katya Silchenko

Iā€™d like to introduce you all to my absolute favorite Ukrainian brand: the COAT by Katya Silchenko.

Itā€™s very rare that Iā€™m so into the aesthetic of a brand that I love an element of every single item of every single collection, but thatā€™s definitely the case with the COAT. Iā€™ve been following the brand on Instagram for years, drawing personal inspiration for some of my own looks from what I saw on @thecoat_officials account. Iā€™ve also been following the creator of the brand, Katya Silchenko, who is an entrepreneur designer boss queen and an all-around inspiration to women.

The COAT is a brand worn by literally ALL Ukrainian celebrities, ranging from TV hosts, to singers, models, bloggers, socialites, and every other stylish woman in the country. But. While I considerĀ The COAT a luxury brand based on quality and quantity of pieces/collections produced, itā€™s not priced nearly as high as your typical luxury brand. An outerwear piece by the COAT ranges between $500-$900, dresses range between $300-$700, tops and skirts range between $200-$500. Basic T-shirts retail as low as $50.

THE KYIV SHOWROOM

Visiting Kyiv in May, the COAT showroom was one of my must-shop destinations and I had the pleasure to meet Katya, who came into the shop. She has that kind of energy which inspires you to stop procrastinating whatever it was you were lazy with, and just start doing things, and do more, and try harder. I really enjoy meeting designers and creators behind great brands who are down to earth but also inspire and motivate you to go to the next level yourself. Especially as a woman trying to break into the sustainable fashion blogging sphere, its inspirational to meet other creative women who are dominating the industry with talent, creativity and hard work. Needless to say, I left the COAT showroom full of motivationā€¦and this incredible midi dress.

I spotted this dress in March on a Ukrainian pop superstar Tina Karol, when she wore it on The Voice Ukraine and immediately fell in love with it. The simplicity in color and print, beauty of small details, femininity and wide versatility of this piece made it a staple must-have for casual days (paired with sneakeys and a knit cardigan) and dressy nights (paired with heels). While checking out the items at the COAT showroom, I knew I couldnā€™t overshop (due to unfortunate luggage weight limits), so if I was going to walk away with one item, it was going to be this incredibly flattering midi dress.

P.S. The COAT is shoppable online & delivers to the US –Ā hereā€™s a link!

Also, I feel like itā€™s important to mention that these opinions are all my own. I was not paid or sponsored by the brand. I just feel like in a blogging world, every favorable brand review is considered to be sponsored in some way (and usually is), but nope! Iā€™m genuinely a huge fan of this brand for many years and I recommend you check it out for your next fashion purchase.

SUSTAINABILITY

Two of my top (and most adaptable) tips to creating a sustainable wardrobe are: a. Purchase items that arenā€™t hyper trendy and will last you a super long time and b. Expand your horizons and invest in international brands vs. your typical go-to fast fashion destination.

I listed average prices for the COAT items earlier in this post, and if those seem high to you, I always encourage comparing a fashion purchase you would make instead. An ā€œokā€ quality fast fashion coat would cost around $100 dollars but will start to wear & tear almost immediately, so consequently will need quick replacement, while a coat by a brand like the COAT is an evergreen item lasting you season after season and in the long run – save you money. The COAT pieces also feature beautiful classic elements and rarely over-the-top trends, so theyā€™ll always be in style.

When I decide on the item I want to add to my wardrobe, I research international brands that create local jobs, stimulate the economy, produce locally and use locally-sourced materials. Ukrainian brands are my latest go-to. When it comes to the COAT’s sustainability and production process, Katya Silchenko posted a series of instagram posts explaining in detail when and where the items are created. Check it out below!
