3 Instagram posts in 1 day!? There’s a short list of occasions that can make me break a social media detox these days – Vyshyvanka day on May 15th is one of the few. I’ve now written a few posts about what a Vyshyvanka is, why I love it, why I purchase them – and I think now’s the time to have a Vyshyvanka appreciation post detailing how I style it and what would ever make me purchase yet another one.
Following my shopping formula, I ask myself 5 questions before every purchase to make sure it fits my style, my wardrobe and makes sense for my wallet. A Vyshyvanka is a staple in my personal style – the item not only speaks to my Ukrainian culture, but I also genuinely love the combination of symbolism and heritage with the contrast of modernism and minimalism. Typically, a boho style item with bold embroidery would be difficult to style – do you combine it with bold prints for a statement look or minimalist solids to make it pop!? With a Ukrainian Vyshyvanka, I feel like it’s difficult to go wrong: minimalist styles, bold print combos, color blocking – it always works. So that’s why my collection of Vyshyvankas just keeps growing (at a reasonable pace, of course…). My collection now includes a gorgeous pink mini by My Sleeping Gypsy, a lilac midi by Etnodim, a thrifted lightly embroidered top and now this gorgeous long midi by The Lace. All, besides the thrifted piece, are by Ukrainian brands, of course. I guess a hot tip here is: sustainable shopping doesn’t have to mean purchasing exclusively non-trendy items, I mean – Vyshyvanka is a VERY bold piece, the right shopping formula is about purchasing items specific to your personal style, your personality and what makes you feel most comfortable.
I spotted this Lace midi on a “preorder” list and immediately signed up for availability notifications. This, to me, is one of those items that align perfectly with my style, my personality, my fashion comfort expectations. It’s ideal for extremely hot weather (100 degrees in Italy this July every day) and can be styled for cooler summer days with a cozy cardigan. The neckline is versatile – drop it to off-the-shoulder or bring it up to a U-shape.
I styled the garment with very minimal and equally as comfortable accessories: my Prada bag I wrote a whole love letter to, comfy Rothy’s flats that are a godsend and deserve a whole separate love letter too, Balcony Ukrainian gold wheat necklace and very minimal makeup. The goal was to create a look that was easily replicated and comfortable to the max for extremely hot summer days: check.
