I’ll be honest, I’m pretty bored by the “hot” trends of Fall/Winter 2018… I get it, we recycle fashion and it’s always exciting to see the 90s or the 60s come back, so we can steal some of our parents’ most-worn items, but I feel like this season is pretty much a repeat of the last.
What are we buying this fall? Animal prints, suede, grungy boots, leather shorts, plaid and oversized outerwear. I basically don’t have to go shopping, just going to dust off my Fall 2017 wardrobe!
Don’t get me wrong, I loved some of the collections for the season (YSL, Prada, Alberta Ferretti, and I wasn’t even against Balenciaga’s neons) but I feel like this season is just missing some excitement… Missing ingenuity and uniqueness that normally makes me forget my name and reach for the wallet. Is it just me?
With that preface, let me just tell you, I went shopping for this dress 3 times. Wandered SOHO in loops to the point where a group of guys hanging out on the corner of Bleeker and Thompson stopped their conversation completely when I passed by for the 3rd time. I have to admit, I do love this dress: suede fabric, color that’s a very perfect rich shade for fall and versatility: dress it up with heels & an updo or dress it down with grungy boots or sneakers.
7 For All Mankind – a brand this dress is by – has a Sustainability and Responsibility section on their website, essentially outlining their commitment to enforcing a strong code of conduct for their suppliers and their commitment to remain accountable for any violations. But considering these suppliers are located in countries like China, Thailand and India, violations are at a much greater risk… Still, as the Good On You app puts it: “it’s a start”.
Now, let me tell you a bit about fashion week events! I chat a bit about my take on fashion week in the vlog, but here’s a bit more 🙂 This is the first time I attended NYFW events alone and didn’t do shows. This was the first time I attended as a blogger for my personal brand! This was the first time I actually made an effort to connect with people and network (I’m normally not the best at starting conversations…) and let me tell you, it was great! I loved meeting a group of like-minded girls who get the industry, who face the same challenges and who celebrate wins in the blogging world, big and small.
Maybe I was lucky, but the girls I met at the MyHauteSociety event at the Bowery hotel were all incredibly sweet, driven and at the end of the day inspired me to go further and do better. I’m discovering that meeting and connecting with people in your industry, no matter what it might be, is probably the most valuable move, more so than great content, right strategy, consistency, etc…
