3 Timeless Pieces for a Warm Spring

I often talk about how much I dislike the concept of “trends” – fueling consumerism and rendering fashion more and more disposable. So to counter all the posts I see featuring “125 hottest trends of the season you should go and buy,” I wanted to feature 3 spring items you may already own that can either be very trendy, depending on the season and mixing / matching, or completely classic and timeless dressed down. Either way – these are the kinds of items that make up a sustainable wardrobe – something you can very easily transition from season to season, year after year and it wouldn’t lose its relevance or gloss.

Having done a post on 3 timeless pieces for cold temperatures, of course the next step was making a post of 3 items for warm weather! If you live in the northern hemisphere, you know we’re heading that way more and more now. This is my absolute favorite weather – not too hot or cold, the opportunities for layering clothing are endless and your mood is just lifted from being able to feel your nose outside.

The 3 items I selected for this feature are: my favorite over-worn oversized old denim jacket, a thrifted black midi skirt with cutout panels, and classic white sneakers by Vagabond Shoes.

Denim Jacket

This is probably the ultimate favorite item in my closet – I featured this jean jacket in 5+ posts, videos and wore it at least 30 times. Plus, I cannot board a plane without it and its magic hidden pockets.

But additionally, denim is the ultimate timeless texture and a classically cut oversized jean jacket is forever. It’s a trend that comes and goes, but will never be out of style.

Midi skirt

Midi length works really well for warm spring temperatures, especially in NYC – you’re not yet burning hot, but also not really cold anymore. Light flowing fabrics make the item even more ideal for the scenario.

The one I have here is thrifted and I opted for black as it fits my style the best (I wear a ton of monochrome, mixed with a pastel palette and occasional pop of color).

White sneakers

Another item I’ve been featuring on the blog way before I even went sustainable with my wardrobe.

White sneakers and tennis shoes have always been a staple of preppy/casual style but athleisure gave it a whole new life when combined with denim or feminine items. I wear white sneakers with formal dresses, casual spring looks like the one in this post, and anything and everything in-between.
