“High quality. Slow fashion. Ethical production.” – reads @overtheseadress Instagram bio and I’m upset I didn’t discover this brand sooner than my research for the Catalogue of Ukrainian Brands post.
As per usual, I cried hugging the package from Overthesea – and then cried again finding a handwritten card in the box – “From Ukraine with love.” The card also informed – the garments were created by seamstresses in Mykolaiv and you should stop what you’re doing and google “Mykolaiv”. Adjacent to temporarily occupied Kherson, Mykolaiv has been the frontline for the war with russia for months – daily bombings, shellings, attempts to occupy… To imagine creative people coming out to work to produce these garments – my heart breaks from pride, sadness and a feeling of wanting to do more.
When looking for ethical recommendations against fast fashion magnates, I look for brands offering variety – primarily to give consumers a similar shopping experience they’re used to – minus supporting unethical manufacturing. Overthesea is the perfect brand to recommend – a solid selection of styles and garments, incredible quality with care sewn into creation of every single piece, a great fabric / color palette selection and endless options for styling.
“OVERTHESEA is not a corporation and we do not support the concept of mass production. We rebuffed the idea of mass production at the very beginning because of our dedication to the ethical work standards and premium manufacturing quality.”
This whole blog is a giant call-to-action for smart meaningful investments in fashion, support for brands creating gorgeous clothing, while following ethical practices, finding one-of-a-kind items that represent your personality and style… so friends! I urge you to support Overthesea and their team with a purchase – plus, you’re investing in incredible quality, garments that’ll inspire “where’d you get that!”s and give you pieces that truly stand out.
