This post is done in collaboration with TREEM
Browsing through my Ethical Brand Alerts, there’s a similarity: each one is a niche clothing brand, specializing in biodegradable fabrics, classic silhouettes, or any other clothing-related ethical practice… I have yet to highlight an ethically-produced, sustainable jewelry label – in comes TREEM.
TREEM is a Swedish jewelry brand entirely aligning with my message of “sustainability, equality and good working conditions,” which are in fact, the brand’s three main values. It was founded with ethics in mind straight from the start, designed to stand out in the fashion industry for all the right reasons. While researching more about TREEM’s ethical values, my heart absolutely melted when I saw 4 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) on the brand’s site: Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption and Production and Climate Action.
In 2019, I attended the UN’s Youth Climate Summit as part of the Conscious Fashion Campaign and heard several fashion brands share their sustainable evolutions and commitments to SDGs. A major takeaway for me was: any brand that understands the importance of putting these Goals at the forefront of their brand is doing things right. In accordance with these goals, TREEM produces the jewelry locally in Sweden, creating local jobs, avoids shipping via air, uses recycled materials, ensures all shipping materials are FSC certified (eco-friendly and recycled), collaborates with sustainable companies and ensures equality and diversity in the workplace.
