Rewearing Reformation: Why Repeating Outfits is Ok

“I repeat my looks” vs. “I can’t wear the same thing twice” debate is ancient, intensified with social media and bloggers posting 10 new looks a day. My head spins during fashion weeks when influencers change in their taxis on the way from one show to another, just to post several different looks. Even if you don’t follow them – “Discover” page algorithms will surface a rainbow of street style on the daily. Industry pressure to have a packed closet is so intense, no wonder people are buying $2 shirts on Temu or some other garbage retailer just to keep up (sorry Temu shoppers! But the trash retailer is a major no-no on this blog). Of course, I’m on the “I repeat my looks” side – the contrary isn’t just unsustainable, but wildly expensive, impractical and void of a personal style.
You might’ve noticed: some of the most followed bloggers are seen wearing quite literally everything – with zero recognizable personal styles. I guess the idea is to sell you a little bit of everything from seasonal collections, and it’s up to the follower to determine what works for them – but instead, this tactic fuels extreme overconsumption and overproduction of cheap clothes. So here’s a post where I rewear the full look from Italy earlier this year! Because it’s ok to be photographed in the same thing twice.

Reflecting on the creation process

In our society consumed by extremely fast fashion and disposable trends, I can see how losing sight of the value in rewearing our clothes happens. After all, I used to be that shopaholic needing new clothes for every occasion and photo for socials. Today I reflect on the creation process behind the pieces I’m wearing – the craftsmanship, the ethical practices, the impact on the environment – recognizing that true personal style goes beyond what’s trendy or new. It’s about making intentional choices, investing in brands that align with our values and items crafted with care, finding joy in the pieces we already own… It’s not just about rewearing; but redefining what it means to be a conscious consumer in a world that often prioritizes quantity over quality.
