I often talk about how much I dislike the concept of “trends” – fueling consumerism and rendering fashion more and more disposable. So to counter all the posts I see featuring “125 hottest trends of the season you should go and buy,” I wanted to feature 3 spring items you may already own that can either be very trendy, depending on the season and mixing / matching, or completely classic and timeless dressed down. Either way – these are the kinds of items that make up a sustainable wardrobe – something you can very easily transition from season to season, year after year and it wouldn’t lose its relevance or gloss.
Yes, the weather is getting nicer by the hour, but we still have those random days when you go outside and your knees shake from how frigid it is… who wants to tell me climate change isn’t real!? So you still have to keep those mid-winter-spring items ready to layer and feel comfortable being outside. I selected 3 pieces for this transitional weather: a nude trench coat I purchased last year from Fashion BNKR (Australian Fashion Labels) and wore all winter this year, a light white sweater with 3/4 sleeve length that was great in the winter when paired with cardigans but now works very well alone and knee-high boots that were a “hot” trend last year but will always look polished and timeless.
This trench is 2 years old now – it is by 5th the Label (Australian Fashion Labels). A beige/nude trench will never be out of style, so when I was purchasing it, I cared more about quality and durability than how well it would fit into my existing wardrobe (it would without a doubt). But the most important purchasing factor here was seasonal versatility.
I have a whole collection of sweaters – my favorite winter staple. But sweaters, not just for me, will always be the perfect transition piece between winter / spring and fall / winter. The one I chose for this look is a white sweater I stole from my mom’s closet – a relaxed fit, textured fabric, a loose turtleneck, and 3/4 sleeves all make it extra comfortable for cool temperatures.
The boots I’m wearing here are by an ethical brand ABLE. I purchased these in 2019 when knee-high boot style was spotted on all the runways. But just like a beige trench coat, knee-high boots will always be modern and versatile – this was another no-brainer purchase. An extremely important element when purchasing boots for me is comfort – no matter the weather, I have to be able to run around town without being in severe pain.
